Wednesday, 8/24

Move-In by Appointment

8:00 AM-2:00 PM, Holt Lobby
If you are living on campus, move into your residence hall at your appointed time. Community Staff & Anthony will check you in and issue your keys!

NSO Check-In and Welcome Session (M)

9:00-10:30 or 11:00-12:00 or 1:00-2:30, Orton Center
Incoming students and families should choose a session to attend that fits with their schedule. Mandatory, attendance will be taken.

Lunch

At your convenience, before 2:00

Enjoy lunch on your own in downtown Redlands or on campus at The Table in Irvine Commons (11am – 1:30pm). Families can eat at the Commons, but will need to pay because meal plans don’t begin until Thursday morning.

Campus Tours

9:00-2:00 PM, Memorial Chapel
Explore the Redlands Campus by joining the Orientation Leaders as they lead campus tours that highlight important resources and spaces around campus. Tours will begin at the top of every hour.

Student Athlete Orientation

2:15-3:15 PM, Memorial Chapel
Incoming student athletes should join this info session to learn about resources available to new student athletes.

Johnston Welcome Circle (M)

3:30-5:30, University Hall
The Welcome Circle is a long-standing Johnston tradition to welcome new students into our community. Join us in University Hall and bring your family!
*NOTE: If you are a commuter student or live in another residence hall, you may choose to attend the welcome session for your own Residence Hall or the Commuter Orientation for the 3:30-4:30 hour and then join the Welcome Circle.

Welcome Dinner

5:30-7:00, The Quad

The campus food service provider, Harvest Table, has catered a free dinner for new students, staff, and families on the Quad!

Welcome Convocation

7:00-8:00 PM, Memorial Chapel
Meet your Orientation Leaders at 6:50 PM on the quad for the official induction of the class of 2026.

Family Farewell

Meet your class! Learn names, pronouns, and do some ice-breakers with the Johnston Orientation Team.

Playfair

9:00 PM, Frosh Quad
Playfair is a high-spirited, high-energy event that allows new students to engage and laugh with one another as a large group, as well as in many quick-changing breakout groups. If you want to attend, meet one of your Johnston Orientation Leaders in Holt Lobby at 8:55.

Slayfair (J)

If Playfair doesn’t sound like quite your speed, join your Johnston O-Team for cup decorating, crafts, low-key hang-out time, and more opportunities for everyone to get to know each other.

Thursday, 8/25

New Student Sunrise & Class Photo

6:00 AM-7:00 AM, Admin Steps
Watch the sunrise and take part in your class photo on the admin steps. This event is “challenge by choice”! It’s only mandatory if you want to take part in your class photo. Coffee and pastries provided.

First Year Seminar (FYS) Course Meeting (M)

8:30-10:00 AM, Holt Lobby

Have your first class meeting with your FYS in Holt Lobby. We’ll get to know each other and discuss what the Johnston FYS will look like this year.

Advising or Optional Academic Orientations

10:30 AM-12:00 PM, starting in Holt Lobby
If you have not yet had an advising meeting, you will stick around in Holt Lobby with Julie Townsend and your peer advisors for an advising session. If you’ve already been advised, you either have free time or you can attend one of the optional academic orientations. Meet an orientation leader ten minutes before the session in Holt Lobby to head to the session together.

If you wish to attend the magician performance in the Chapel, we’ll meet in Holt Lobby at 8:20 to head over together.

Game Night (J)

If you don’t want to see the magician, drop in anytime for a chill evening of various types of games.

Foundations of Community is a mandatory event for all new students at the University of Redlands, in Johnston, it means getting you acquainted with our unique policies, processes, vocabulary, and what the heck a “community meeting” actually is.

Title IX & Equity Orientation (M)

10:30 AM-12:00 PM, University Hall
Your Orientation Leaders will head to the mandatory Title IX & Equity Orientation to hear a presentation & engage in a conversation about consent, collective responsibility, and equity.

Outdoor Programs Info Session

12:00-1:00, OP Shop in the Currier Gym
Meet Outdoor Programs Leaders from Johnston after the Title IX orientation to check out OP together.

Student Employment Information Session

1:00-2:00 PM, Memorial Chapel

If you receive work study as part of your financial aid award and are interested in working, you should attend this workshop, where you can learn all you need to know about Student Employment opportunities. Meet an Orientation Leader in Holt Lobby at 12:50 to head over to the chapel together.

Becoming a Bulldog Workshops

2:15-3:25 PM, Various Locations
Pick from any of the following workshops to learn more about opportunities & resources available to you as a new Bulldog! Topics include Outdoor Programs/Intramurals/Club Sports, Native Student Programs, E-Sports, Community Service Learning, Academic Success and Accessibility, Campus Diversity and Inclusion, and Office of Career and Professional Development. If you need help finding anything, Orientation Leaders will be available starting at 2:00 in Holt Lobby.

Mock Community Meeting (J)

We will put into practice the information from Foundations of Community in an example community meeting.

Join current Associated Students of University of Redlands (ASUR) to learn about ways you can get involved in student government.

Pride Center Reception

Meet Maggie & various Orientation Leaders at 1:25 in Holt Lobby and walk over to CDI to learn more about the Pride Center.

Bulldog Votes

1:30-2:30 PM, Bulldog Room
Join the people headed to the Pride Center Reception in Holt Lobby at 1:25 to meet the members of the student-run organization, Bulldog Votes! In this session, you’ll learn how to get involved within this organization and the local community.

Roommate Date (J)

Get to know your roommate better with some helpful prompts that will help you write your roommate contract later in the week. If you’re living somewhere other than complex, come get to know the space and make sure you have a TB16 key!

Meet in Holt Lobby to head over together at 10:50 if you are interested in the Theatre department. Whether you plan on being a major, a minor, or just want to be involved - stop by and meet with current students and faculty. Ice cream may be available.

School of Business and Society 4+1 Pathway Preview

Join to learn about opportunities associated with the School of Business and Society’s 4+1 Pathway.

Open Mic is a Johnston Orientation tradition! Come to see fellow community members perform and/or perform yourself! Open Mic is a fun, exciting, informal way to meet people and start off the year strong.
