Location-based data are pervasive in modern economies given the benefits they represent for more sustainably expanding a business, appraising and mitigating risk and increasing resiliency, and shaping the environmental, social, and governance strategies of organizations. However, while most business data contain spatial or spatially-referenced data, there is a deficiency in the workforce of professionals with a blend of business and location analytics knowledge and skills to effectively analyze and make decisions with spatial data.
The motivation for this invitational forum comes from the heightened need to integrate the concepts and techniques of GIS and location analytics into business education and affiliated disciplines and degree offerings to create the next generation of spatial business professionals.
The objectives of this forum are twofold: (1) To share the latest concepts, trends and developments on the application of location analytics to business and related societal issues, and (2) To collaborate on the utilization of spatial business and related concepts into business and academic curriculum, programs and research.
Day 1 will feature plenary presentations by industry experts who are leading location intelligence initiatives in their organizations. This day will also feature in-depth discussions on the application of location analytics for the generation of business, environmental, and societal value. Day 1 will conclude with a networking reception hosted by the University of Redlands.
Day 2 will feature case study discussions and short presentations on GIS and location analytics research and curricular aspects, in light of market demand for the next generation of spatial business professionals. Teaching resources will be shared, including a new book along with opportunities to collaborate in developing a spatial business “hub” of educational materials that can be used by participating universities.
