A Digital Atlas of Metal Music

Few genres of popular music are as polarizing as metal (aka "heavy metal"). Depending on the listener, it can induce cringes, derisive laughter, or bliss. During the spring of 2024, the students in HIST 275 "Mapping Metal: A Historical Geography" examined the historical geography behind the genre from its antecedents to the current day and challenged what we think we know about the history and geographic spread of the genre.

Friends of the Zanja

From its inception in 2017 and incorporation in 2024, the Friends of the Zanja are dedicated to the preservation of this historical site, nature, and diverse ecosystems. We envision the Zanja that is properly maintained to respect its historical roots while supporting vulnerable communities through flood control, clean air, cooler temperatures, and biodiversity, all essential to the community’s wellbeing.
