Black Redlands 1910: Making a Vibrant Community Visible

This StoryMap makes uses the Colored Citizen newspaper and 1910 Census data make turn of 20th century Black communities in inland Southern California visible. It portrays the stories of Black homeowners, business owners, and citrus grove owners who built churches, an orchestra, a newspaper and a vibrant community in early Redlands despite rising racism in the early 20th century. jennifer_tilton@redlands.edu
