Welcome! Next Steps for Housing

Hello,

The Residence Life and Housing staff looks forward to welcoming you to campus for the Fall 2023 semester at the University of Redlands! Please review all the information below thoroughly, as many of your questions about housing and meal plans will be answered.

Housing Intention Form:

All incoming students complete a Housing Intention Form to communicate their living preferences with Residence Life and Housing through the MyRedlands Housing Portal. Students are responsible for reading and understanding all details of the Housing License and Meal Plan Agreement and Code of Community Standards. Students who wish to live off-campus at any point during the 23-24 academic year, and meet one of the four residential requirement exemption criteria, must petition through this form. The Housing Intention Form is due June 1st

Personal Profile:

Students will complete their Personal Profile, to be shared with other new students. All students, even those who have already made roommate arrangements, are encouraged to complete their profile to support in future Roommate Agreement conversations.

Visit the MyRedlands Housing Portal, click on Personal Profile, click on My Info, and then select Fall 2023 from the menu labeled For the Term. After completing the information and clicking Save at the bottom of the page, click on Roommate Profile to provide additional contact and personal information. Remember to click Update Roommate Profile at the bottom of the page to save. This is how you will provide your best method of contact, contact information, and a short blurb about yourself. This will be shared, along with your living preferences, with other students.

Roommate Selection:

We take great care to match students with roommates based on their Personal Profile information. When it comes to living with other students, you may be surprised to find someone with very different interests can still share many of the same living traits that are important in a good roommate, for example similar sleep or cleanliness habits. For this reason, we urge you to approach living with roommates with a positive outlook and not to jump to conclusions about the viability of matches prior to trying them out.

On the MyRedlands Housing Portal, navigate to Housing and Roommate Selection in the left toolbar, click Select Roommates, and select Fall 2023 from the menu labeled For the Term. Here you will search from students within your cohort by a variety of criteria and review their information. We encourage you to start with just one criteria, the most important factor to you, and work your way up to adding additional fields to narrow down the list of students.

If you find someone you would like to request, click Request Roommate. This will send a notification to that student, so they may review your information and decide on whether to agree to the roommate request. Given the roommate request is mutual through the approval of the request in their own MyRedlands Housing Portal, you will be matched together as roommates in a room within the community.

You will find roommate requests sent to you listed under Pending Roommate Requests and those you have match with under Roommate Requests.

Housing Selection and Placement Process:

Once the Housing Intention Form and roommate selection process are completed in June, you will receive an email from Residence Life and Housing with information regarding the Housing Selection and Placement Process. Please visit our website to learn more about our first year and returning communities.

Room Rates:

The cost of Room Rates varies across the many different living arrangements on campus. The most common room type, an air-conditioned double room using a hall bathroom, is the room rate utilized for financial planning with Student Financial Services (SFS) and the room rate charged to a student’s account is based on their final housing placement. There are a very limited number of single and quad rooms, so most students will not be eligible for those spaces.

Please find the room rates on our website. Should you have questions regarding your student account and/or specific charges, we encourage you to please contact Student Financial Services at SFS@redlands.edu or by calling (909) 748-8047.

Meal Plans:

All students are required to have a meal plan and new students living on-campus will be initially assigned the standard, All Access meal plan. To view your current meal plan or to make a change, please visit the MyRedlands Housing Portal by September 1st. After this date, the next opportunity to make an adjustment to your meal plan is prior to the beginning of the next semester. Visit the Harvest Table website for more information about meal plans and rates.

Click on Meal Plans, click on Dining Plans, and then select Fall 2023 from the menu located to the right of the Filter box. The meal plan currently assigned to you will be listed. Click on a different meal plan option under Change my Meal Plan and click Purchase Meal Plan to change your plan. A record of your meal plan selection history will be listed, with the one at the top being the plan currently assigned and being charged to your student account. For a video of instructions on how to select or change a meal plan please click here

Move-in:

New students move-in for New Student Orientation is on Thursday, August 24th by appointment. Instructions will be provided at the beginning of August for students to sign-up for their key pick-up time. Please note, students with a balance due on their student account, as well as any other outstanding items from the New Student Checklist, will not be permitted to move into their housing assignment until settled with Student Financial Services and/or the applicable offices.

Early Arrivals: Some students, new and returning, will move-in earlier than the published arrival dates as they are members of an Early Arrival Group. These students have prior permission to check-in at a different date/time and will receive additional information about move-in from their group's representative.

Should you have any questions, please email Residence Life and Housing at RLH@redlands.edu
