Housing Selection and Placement Process

Hello,

The Housing Selection and Placement Process takes place for students to participate in the selection of their housing arrangements for the following academic year. Please review all the information below thoroughly, as many of your questions will be answered.

Housing License & Meal Plan Agreement

Please be on the lookout for an email from Residence Life and Housing regarding the Housing License and Meal Plan Agreement that will become available on your My Redlands Housing Portal under Applications and Forms. This application must be completed by May 1st in order to participate in Housing Selection and Placement Process. Failure to complete by the assigned deadline will result in forfeiting your opportunity to participate in Room Draw and a room will be selected for you.

Room Draw 2023

Personal Profile: Visit the MyRedlands Housing Portal and update your Personal Profile for Fall 2023.

Roommate(s)/Suitemate(s): Search and match with roommate(s) and suitemate(s) under Housing and Roommate Selection by selecting Roommates/Suitemates on your MyRedlands Housing Portal. Approve matches with all students of which you plan to share a room and/or suite-style living arrangement. During the Room Draw process, you will identify a roommate or suitemate designation for each matched student, while also placing them in a particular bed arrangement.

Room Draw: Participate in Room Draw, the week of May 16th, during the best selection date/time for your matched housing group to select your room. You will receive your assigned date and time, based on class and academic standing, with detailed information sent via email to your Redlands account on Wednesday, May 10, 2023. The communities included in Room Draw will be Anderson, Brockton Apartments, California, Cortner, Founders, Grossmont, Melrose, and Merriam Halls.

Consolidations: After the Room Draw process has finished, Residence Life and Housing will place students who did not participate, in a housing assignment, reconfigure some housing arrangements to optimize placements, and facilitate the Waiting List requests. Students will be notified via their Redlands email account if / when they have been assigned a new space.

Applications and Petitions

Housing Accommodations - due Tuesday, April 4th  Students interested in requesting a housing accommodation for the coming year must complete the Accommodations Process with Academic Success and Accessibility (ASA).

Off Campus Petition - due Tuesday, April 4th Only those who meet one of the four published off campus exemption criteria will be considered for the coming 2023-2024 academic year. Learn more about the Off Campus Petition Process on our website and complete the petition on the MyRedlands Housing Portal. If you have received previous Off Campus approval for one of the four published off campus exemption criteria, no further action is needed from you at this time.

Quad Application - due Tuesday, April 4th This application is for students who want to be considered for placement in a quad room, which are limited in number. The selection of students is completed in collaboration with Student Financial Services (SFS). Each student who wants to be considered should complete the application on the MyRedlands Housing Portal.

Waiting List – This application will become available after the Room Draw process has finished, as changes to housing assignments take place throughout the summer. If you would like to be considered for an alternate housing assignment (e.g. your building preference was full on your Room Draw selection time), use this application. Please be aware that priority for single rooms is first given to students with a housing accommodation using the process above.

Additional Housing Information

Going abroad or taking a leave of absence in the fall? You must complete Accommodation Request and/or the Off Campus Petition processes by the April 4th deadline, to be considered for these housing options when you return. However, no other housing selection processes are needed from you at this time.

  • You will be contacted in November via your Redlands email account with information about how to share your room and roommate(s)/suitemate(s) preferences for your spring return.
  • This will be completed on your MyRedlands Housing Portal using the Return to Housing Form. Students planning to take a Leave of Absence for the Fall semester, must follow the information linked here to notify the University.

Currently on a Leave of Absence? Students currently on a LOA, who have indicated they will return in the fall with the Registrar's Office, will participate in the Housing Selection and Placement Process as a returning student based on their class and academic standing.
