This schedule represents a summary of the family & friends NSO experience. 

Wednesday, August 24th

DAY SCHEDULE:

 

Move-in by Appointment  
8:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m.  
At Residence Hall 

 

 

Residence Life and Housing will work with new students who have completed the New Student Checklist before their arrival to make an appointment for move-in. If your student has not received a move-in appointment, please report to the Information Booth located in the Hunsaker Center.  *Enjoy lunch on your own in downtown Redlands or on campus at the Table at Irvine Commons. If you will be eating off campus, we encourage reservations ahead of time. View the “Local Dining” section on the R App for some local eateries.

Come learn about the Redlands experience from current students. The panel will begin with our host asking the students about their journey at Redlands and then will open up to questions from the audience.

"Holding on and Letting Go"

A student's success is dependent on the sources of support that surround them, and how that support is used to grow confidence and capacity, particularly in their first year. The University Dean of Student Affairs, Dr. Donna Eddleman, will share her perspective, provide some foundational expectations of the partnership we endeavor to cultivate with families and challenge those attending to think about how they will provide support in this new environment.  

 

Free Time 
5:00 - 5:30 p.m. 

 

Take a breather and enjoy some free time before dinner. Wander around our University Bookstore for some Redlands Swag or take a walk through our beautiful campus.

 

Welcome Dinner  
5:30 p.m. - 7:00 p.m.

Our campus food service provider, Harvest Table, extends its welcome to all new Bulldogs and their families with dinner on them! Come meet other new Bulldog families, President Newkirk, and other University administrators at this casual dinner. All new students, families, and guests are invited. No formal schedule.  

 

President's Welcome Convocation 
7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.  
Memorial Chapel  

 

 

This is President Newkirk’s welcome and serves as the official induction of incoming students. Everyone is invited; students will be seated first – families are invited to cheer for the students as they enter the Chapel. *Note: this program will be shown via Live Stream in Casa Loma. 

 

 

Family Farewell  
8:00 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. 
Memorial Chapel Steps  

 

Our day now comes to a close and it's time to hug your Bulldog goodbye. We will linger on the Chapel Steps for farewells and festive photos and then students will head off with their peers to begin their college journey.

ResNet (our Information Technology Service Department) will be in Fletcher Jones Center for Experiential Learning on the bottom floor of the Armacost Library to help students set up their computers and devices. You can also visit their web page.

Stop by the Harvest Table booth during the Welcome Dinner to learn more about dining services and meal plans.  

While masking is not currently mandated on our campuses, we encourage you to mask:

  • When returning from travel (for 5 days post-return);
  • After a known exposure to a positive case (even if you test negative);
  • After recovering from COVID and returning to a campus (up to 14 days from onset of symptoms)
  • When meeting with others in small spaces;
  • When in crowded public areas on our campuses;
  • When asked to mask by others who are concerned about their safety or that of others; and
  • Any situation not mentioned here that increases the risk of transmission.
