For more information about student health insurance while attending the University of Redlands, please visit the Relation website. Their customer service number is (800) 537-1777.
The University of Redlands requires all CAS undergraduate students enrolled in nine or more units to have health insurance that provides access to local health care and helps minimize the financial burden an accident, injury, or illness creates. Annually, the University confirms qualifying health insurance coverage for all CAS undergraduates leading up to the start of the fall semester. Students who enroll for the first time or return in the spring from a leave of absence (LOA), will need to upload proof of qualifying coverage by the published spring submission deadline; thereafter, like others, proof of qualifying coverage will be required leading up to the start of each Fall semester.
On a practical level, this means a student enrolling for the first time, or returning from LOA, who is enrolled in more than nine credits, will see a charge for the University of Redlands Student Health Plan (URSHP) reflected on their bill, unless or until proof of qualifying coverage is confirmed. Proof of coverage must be received before January 17, 2023. This is the only opportunity to waive the URSHP coverage.
Students who were billed for coverage during the fall semester because they needed insurance or missed the published deadline by which coverage needed to be waived, can submit proof of insurance coverage that complies with the Affordable Care Act and meets State of California requirements (short-term medical plans and travel insurance do not qualify) to have their current SHIP plan cancelled on December 31, 2022.
A URSHP charge appears on your spring tuition bill; this charge will be removed provided qualifying coverage is confirmed on or by 5 pm on January 17, 2023.
For those who need health insurance coverage, the University has partnered with Relation Insurance Services, an insurance broker, to secure a student health insurance plan with Wellfleet. The plan’s annual rate is $1,713. Coverage for the spring semester begins on January 1, 2023 and ends August 9, 2023. The cost for spring semester coverage is $1,037.
Highlights of the plan include the following:
· Compliance with the state and federal laws
· Annual deductibles: $250 in and out of network combined
· In-Network physician office visit $20 Copay then 100% Coverage
· Prescription drug coverage based on four tiers
· Behavioral Health Hotline and Telemedicine services included
If a student outside the local area is currently covered, for example, under a family member’s employer plan, we strongly encourage contacting the provider to confirm the depth and breadth of coverage in southern California, and/or to inquire about extending coverage to San Bernardino County and surrounding areas. For example, Kaiser Permanente customers have found some coverage is regional and therefore does not include health care facilities in the area surrounding the Redland’s campus.
While full details of the plan can be found here, do note that some students may qualify for health insurance coverage through Medi-Cal, California’s part of our national health coverage program, Medicaid. Medi-Cal information, to include eligibility categories, can be found here.
If you have questions about Medi-Cal you should contact the San Bernardino County Office of Health and Human Services: https://www.dhcs.ca.gov/services/medi-cal/Pages/CountyOffices5.aspx.
