ASUR Senate is a culmination of students. Members of the Senate are chosen each year by the student body via a direct democratic voting process. The members come together to resolve the issues and make the changes that the student body wants to see in the University.

Byran Whitehead
Senate Chair

Hello, my name is Byran Whitehead and I'm your senate chair for the 2022-23 school year. As chair I aspire to create a greater connection with the university and the Redlands community. To add a bit about myself, I'm a political science and English double major. I'm also President of Bulldogs Vote and I will be running several independent projects for students. As for my personal interests, I love antiques, classic architecture, bowling, cooking, and walking downtown.

There are several causes I stand for and communities I fight for, such as environmentalism, social justice, the LGBTQ community, etc. I also am a part of the commuter community on campus which needs and deserves more representation.

I want to help students feel more welcome at Redlands and provide more avenues for them to get included. My goal is to help everyone, especially transfer students and every other student that feels outcasted, to have a place they can belong. Above all, I want to listen to students' needs and make sure they're met.

Hello, my name is Enrique Alverde and I am one of the representatives for the class of 2025. As a Senator it is my goal and duty to best represent my constituent class as well as the entire student body to make a greater University. As for myself, I intend on focusing my studies on Softwear Engineering through the 3/2 program to finish my degree at the University of Columbia. I enjoy books, coding, but most importantly spending time with my friends and family. I want to be the person who best represents your needs and wants for this University. I ask that you please reach out to me during my office hours or email me with any suggestions you may have.

I wanted to engage in our school's student council and find a way to make changes in improving our school for the better of our students. I also believe I will be a very active senator that will accurately represent the sophomore class

I am running for senate because I want to leave a legacy behind at this institution. The University of Redlands has done so much for me and has given me a home where I feel safe. This is my way of giving back to, not just the school itself, but my class as well. I have so much planned for our future at this school and I look forward to hopefully getting that opportunity, Go Bulldogs!

A major reason behind me wanting to run for office is to make a difference on campus. It's important to me because it allows me to give back to the community we have here, while also meeting new people and talking to fellow students. I think running for office is one of the best ways to stay involved on campus and to have a lasting effect on campus.

I want to run for office, because I would like to clearly represent our students of 2026 and be a voice for those who do not have one.

Projects

These are projects that have been approved, via majority vote, and founded by ASUR Senate.

Water Bottle Filling Stations

The goal of the water bottle filling station project is to replace and install drinking fountains with new fountains that fill water bottles. Currently, there are plans to replace the fountains in Melrose, Founders, and California.

Gender Neutral Bathrooms

Waste Basket Project

A project that promotes recycling on campus and makes it easily accessible for students and faculty. The project directly affects Duke and will substitute all the Duke classrooms and offices with recycling cans that have smaller trash cans attached to them. A pop-up booth outside the commons will aid in informing students of on-campus recycling, waste, compost, and sustainable practices on campus and in the City of Redlands.

Office

Senators hold office hours open to the entire university in the S.I.S (Student Information Services) room. Located on the second floor of Hunsaker above the Mail Room. Senators are required to hold 2 office hours a week stationed in the S.I.S. room and 5 total office hours each week. Senators choose their office hours schedules each week, so it is possible that there will not be any Senators holding office hours in S.I.S. at any given time. We are working on getting set schedules finalized for each senator, so you know when we are holding office hours in person.
