Merriam Hall is part of the Global Quarter community designed for students who want to encounter other cultures and traditions, prepare for study abroad, or continue their international experience back on campus.
Merriam Hall houses a community of 100 students in air-conditioned, double with a few triple-occupancy rooms with hallway bathrooms. The average room size in Merriam is 12' by 17'. The hall features sustainable appliances, low-flow showerheads, highly efficient light bulbs, furniture made from eco-friendly or recycled material, and motion sensor light switches. The walls are covered with low-toxic paint and most of the carpet has a high level of recycled content.
Along with North Hall, the Global Quarter community brings together returning students in Merriam Hall and first-year students in North Hall to be part of the hub of campus internationalism, including meetings of internationally themed clubs and organizations, language tutorials, film screenings, cooking classes, speakers, art displays, and even holiday celebrations. Residents, faculty, and staff who wish to become more involved in the Global Quarter should email Sebastian_Rivera@redlands
Residents of Merriam Hall engage in Community Standards meetings throughout each semester in which they discuss the policies they live by and hold each other accountable. These meetings give students the opportunity to communicate openly and effectively and live harmoniously with others around them.
Community Assistants are undergraduate student staff members who also live in the hall and provide residents with programming and events, such as movie nights, socials, crafts, sports events, study nights, and about varying topics. The student staff members are available to residents should they need help finding a location on campus, a peer to talk to, academic advice, or a roommate mediation. Our Community Assistants are chosen from a selective hiring process and trained prior to the start of the school year.
