University of Redlands Immunization Statement

Informed by legally required K-12 immunization compliance throughout the state of California, medical guidance, and the science of Herd Immunity [1], the University of Redlands encourages, but does not require students to be vaccinated for Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR), Chickenpox, Meningococcal Virus, TDAP (Tetanus, Diphtheria, Pertussis), Tuberculosis, Hepatitis B, and COVID-19.

Students in programs designed to lead to careers in professions such as education or healthcare may be required to have certain vaccinations to secure fieldwork placements necessary to advance in their programs.

Immunization decisions should be made in consultation with a primary care physician. Immunization recommendations from the California Department of Public Health Prevention can be found here.

[1] Herd immunity occurs when a large portion of a community (the herd) becomes immune to a disease. The spread of disease from person to person becomes unlikely when herd immunity is achieved.
