Below are some annual events facilitated by the Office of Community Service Learning and student organizations. Contact the CSL Office for more information and to participate in these events!

The University of Redlands partners with three blood banks throughout the academic calendar year for four annual blood drives (two per semester). City of Hope, LifeStream and The American Red Cross come to campus at least twice a year for University blood drives.
This year we plan on donating even more so roll up your sleeves! Sign-ups for the blood drives take place in the Commons the week before the scheduled blood drive date so keep your eyes open for the next time the Blood Banks will be on campus. The full donation process takes about 60 (plus) minutes. Contact the Volunteer Center for upcoming blood drive information. Save up to 3 lives!
Every year, the Office of Community Service Learning collects donations from University departments and student clubs and organizations to help create and package Thanksgiving baskets for local families in need. The Volunteer Center collects a pre-set list of items before Thanksgiving break, and with the help of many students and organizations package them and deliver baskets to low income families.
Each of the families that receive baskets belong to the Micah House after school program that partners closely with the University of Redlands. The baskets are a generous donation.
Each year the University sponsors an end of the year donation drive for student moving out of their resident halls. There are two collection dates, occurring the last week of the spring semester (following graduation) and the last week of May Term before summer break. Each resident hall will have designated areas and signage for students to drop off donations, and collection bags are handed out to each resident’s room weeks prior to donations being picked up.
When the school year comes to end, many students clear out their closets and wardrobes to get ready for summer. Donate your unwanted items to those in need. Places like Goodwill, Angel's Closet, Salvation Army, and Family Service Association of Redlands. Your used items can go a long way in helping needy families in the Redlands/San Bernardino area. Here is a list of some things you can and cannot donate:
Reverend Robin Hyde comments: "I would estimate we pick up 3 to 5 tons of goods [from the University] each year. This is kept out of the area landfills and is recycling at its best, as we are able to share these goods with some of the neediest in San Bernardino County. It is interesting that each year there is an ebb and flow as to what is mostly given. Some years it has been electric fans (always needed), computers, small refrigerators (again very needed by the poor), and lamps. We are always receiving thousands of clothing items, from blue jeans to jackets, blankets, pillows, and costumes. Each (residence) hall is unique and does what they can to help in this wonderful effort to reach out to the marginalized of our area."
Relay for Life is an opportunity for staff and groups of students to join together to walk or run to raise funds for the fight against cancer.
The event takes place over a 12-hour period (early Saturday to late Saturday evening). The Redlands Relay for Life occurs in March.
Each year, the Office of Community Service Learning hosts several events in honor of MLK Day. For the last few years, the Office of Community Service Learning has partnered with the student body and the campus's food service provider to collect money for the Annual Got MLK? Milk drive, create blankets for Get On The Bus, a program that connects children with their incarcerated parents, and work with children’s programs to create a luminaires display on the evening of MLK Day. Newer projects that we look to continue in the future include working with Alumni Relations to have volunteers participate in our Orange Blossom Trail Murals, which in 2018 gained the addition of an MLK Mural. We also will continue to partner with Rise Against Hunger, helping package over 10,000 meals for those in developing countries.
Each year, the Office of Community Service Learning encourages students, faculty, staff and alumni to participate in the annual Believe Walk, hosted in down town Redlands. Going on for the last 10 years, the Stater Bros. Believe Walk of the Inland Empire help to raise money and awareness for the Susan G. Komen foundation in the fight against cancer. With the help of University participants and the Bulldog Cheer team, the University of Redlands always has a strong community presence at the Believe Walk.
Each year, the CSL Office works with the Accounting department to offer a cross listed course that benefits both students and the community. Students enrolled in the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (V.I.T.A.) course learn valuable skills in how to properly file taxes as accountants, while the professor of the course confirms their work. Community members, as well as students and faculty benefit from having to pay a greatly reduced price for their taxes to be done for them correctly and easily. The V.I.T.A. program starts in March and goes through every Monday afternoon until May.
