Connections FAQs

What is Connections?

Connections is an annual retreat hosted by Student Involvement and Success that helps students make friends, grow personally, and rejuvenate from the semester in an atmosphere of fun and camaraderie. Retreat activities are planned and led by the professional facilitators.

What do I need to bring?

  • Comfortable clothing for three days and two nights. Check the weather in San Bernardino National Forest (Angelus Oaks) before you pack.
  • Sweater or coat. We will be up towards the mountains so the weather will be cold.
  • Hygiene items
  • Water bottle
  • Blanket and pillow (a sheet and thick blanket will do or you can rent from Outdoor Programs)
  • Pens and something to write on

What do we do?

Connections is not a typical retreat! They will focus on areas such as intercultural fluency, self-assessment, teamwork, problem-solving, creating goals, and communication. The activities are fun and engaging!

Where do we go?

The retreat takes place on campus the first day, and then on the second day we will travel up to the mountains. This year's Connections Retreat will take place at YMCA Camp Arbolado up in the San Bernardino National Forest (less than an hour from campus).

Where do we sleep?

The first night of the retreat you sleep wherever you normally sleep since we will not be leaving campus until the second day of the retreat.  We will sleep in cabins that have an open floor plan with bunk beds.

I am busy one of the days, can I just come to a part of the retreat?

The retreat is an all or nothing experience. Each activity builds on each other in hopes that friendships are cultivated.
