Edwards joined the Public Safety Department in 2003 in the position of Specialist and served as coordinator of Public Safety RIMS, Records Management and Computer Aided Dispatch System. She also managed the Student Worker program, Van Pool reservation system, Student and employee parking permits, South Coast Air Quality Management District, Rule 2202, Commuter/Ride-Share Program Administrator, liaison with accounts payable on invoice processing, front lobby contacts and public inquiries, and served as a backup Dispatcher. Officer Edwards successfully completed the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training, PC832 - Laws of Arrest course and the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services training.

Edwards was promoted to an Officer in December of 2021 and promoted to Sergeant in September of 2022. On December 4, 2023 she was promoted to Lieutenant.
