George LaFear, Public Safety Officer

Officer LaFear’s law enforcement career was split equally between the military and civilian sectors. In 1984, Officer LaFear began working for the U.S. Air Force as a K-9 patrol officer where he specialized in the use of a canine to detect narcotics and explosives. In 1989, he graduated from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Police Academy and began working for the Riverside Police Department. He holds California P.O.S.T. certifications at all levels up through Advanced Officer, with specialized training in Undercover Narcotics Investigations, Field Training, Domestic Violence Investigations, Vehicle Pursuits, and Sex Crimes Investigations. Officer LaFear retired from the Riverside Police Department in 1999, and in 2008 he began working as a contractor through the U.S. State Department as a certified International Police Advisor/Trainer. He was deployed to Iraq for two years where he was responsible for teaching basic law enforcement skills and concepts to Iraqi Policemen. Officer LaFear came to the University of Redlands after serving 18 years as a law enforcement professional.
Officer LaFear joined the Department of Public Safety in July of 2020.
