Subject:  Security Advisory: Incident Near Redlands Campus

Redlands Police Department has issued a news release regarding a shooting that occurred last night in Sylvan Park, across University Street from the Redlands campus.  The adult male victim, who later died at the hospital, was not associated with the University.

There is not believed to be a threat in the area.  We are releasing this advisory for the community’s awareness, to reinforce key safety tips and contact information, and because you may hear media reports that note the incident’s proximity to our campus.

Redlands Police Department is investigating and has increased their patrols in the area.  Public Safety is monitoring the police investigation and has increased patrols on the south side of campus.

If you live off campus, or whenever traveling off campus -- especially after dark -- remember to:

  • Take a buddy.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and of the people and activity around you.
  • Call Public Safety at extension 8888, or 909-748-8888, if you see suspicious activity or people on or near campus, or need assistance in any way.
  • Always call 911 in an emergency, or Redlands Police Dispatch at 909-798-7681 if you see or suspect that a crime is taking place off campus.

We will update this notice as needed.
