Subject:  Incident on Cornell Ave.

Public Safety has received a report from the Redlands Police Department (RPD) of an armed robbery that occurred yesterday around 5:30 p.m. on Cornell Avenue near North University Street. We are notifying you of this incident due to its proximity to our facilities. No members of the University of Redlands were involved.

The robbery occurred after an individual advertised a pair of shoes for sale for $500 and arranged to meet the “buyers” at the Cornell Avenue location. There, he encountered three men in their 20s wearing dark clothing. One of them pulled out a knife and another grabbed the shoes. They then fled on foot, via Cornell Street, then north on University Avenue.

This incident can serve as a reminder to all members of the University Community to take reasonable precautions when entering into any transaction with unknown individuals:

  • Arrange to meet in a public location, such as a police station.
  • Choose daytime hours and well-lit areas, when possible.

  • Bring a friend; avoid meeting strangers alone.

  • Immediately report any suspicious persons or activities to Public Safety.

Our highest priority remains the safety and security of our campus community members. If you have any questions or information, please contact Public Safety at (909) 748-8888 or ext. 8888 from any campus phone.
