Subject:  Security advisory: Reported robbery on Redlands campus

A 911 call was placed to the Redlands Police Department this evening reporting a robbery that took place at approximately 4:30 p.m. in the parking lot at the Brockton Apartments, Redlands campus. Two individuals who are not connected with the University reported having their wallet, keys, and mobile phone taken while parked temporarily at the Brockton Apartments. They were allegedly made to hand over their possessions by two young male suspects who drove into the Brockton parking lot in a van and threatened the pair with a handgun. We do not believe the suspects are connected with the University in any way.

Redlands Police are on scene and investigating. The Department of Public Safety had also been alerted to suspicious activity near Brockton, by students who notified a patrolling officer. Public Safety has increased patrols in the area and is assisting the investigation and identification of suspects by reviewing surveillance video. Although the suspects drove away from the scene, we are not aware of their whereabouts at this time.

So, as a reminder, keep as safe as possible by:

  • reporting vehicles that are driving or are parked suspiciously and do not appear to display University parking tags;
  • walking with a buddy;
  • being aware of your surroundings and of the people and activity around you; and
  • calling Public Safety at extension 8888 from any campus phone (909-748-8888), if you see suspicious activity or people, or need assistance in any way.

 We will update this notice as needed.
