Subject:  Security Advisory: Redlands Campus Suspicious Person

Last night Public Safety officers, after notification by Library staff and with assistance from the Redlands Police Department (RPD), removed a male transient from Armacost Library.  The individual was taken into custody, charged with resisting arrest and criminal trespass, and subsequently released.

There is no active threat to campus at this time.  But we believe, and RPD’s history with this individual indicates, that he may act out if approached and may pose a threat to other individuals or to law enforcement.

RPD and Public Safety are actively patrolling the campus and surrounding area, monitoring campus video feed, and watching for this individual.  We are increasing the physical security of the Armacost Library building, including programs and services on the ground floor, through reduced and controlled access and are increasing Public Safety presence in and around the building tonight and throughout the week.

Please contact Public Safety immediately at extension 8888, or 909-748-8888, if you see a person matching the following description who appears or behaves in a way that causes discomfort or suspicion:

  • Caucasian male, age 22, average build

  • Beard and mustache

  • Eye glasses

  • Disheveled appearance

  • Black/dark hoodie and/or “Superman” shirt, khaki cargo pants

  • Loud, possibly angry-sounding vocal behavior

Several students and Library staff members witnessed this person’s arrest last night.  We are releasing this advisory for the broader community’s awareness, to let you know the status of the incident and our actions in response, and to reinforce key safety and security advice.  As always:

  • Be aware of your surroundings and of the people and activity around you.

  • Walk with a buddy.

  • Call Public Safety at extension 8888, or 909-748-8888, if you see suspicious activity or people on or near campus, or need assistance in any way.

  • Always call 911 in an emergency, or Redlands Police Dispatch at 909-798-7681 if you see or suspect that a crime is taking place off campus.

We will update this notice as needed.
