Subject:  Recent vehicle break-ins

Over the past two weeks, Public Safety has received five reports of vehicles on the Redlands campus being forcibly or unlawfully entered during the late evening or nighttime hours, with personal items taken from each by unknown individuals. These incidents have primarily occurred along Brockton Avenue, Grove Street, and the University parking lot adjacent to fraternity row. In each of the reported incidents, items of value had been in plain sight within the parked vehicles.

Even an empty backpack left in a vehicle may attract the attention of a person intent on criminal activity. As a reminder, all members of the University Community are encouraged to take precautions by enhancing the security of their parked vehicles:

  • Close the windows and lock the doors of your vehicle when leaving it unattended.
  • Do not leave items of real or perceived value in plain sight within your vehicle. Lock items in the trunk or take them with you when leaving.
  • Park in well-lit areas, to the best extent possible.
  • Immediately report any suspicious persons or activities to Public Safety.

Our highest priority remains the safety and security of our campus community members. If you have any questions or information, please contact Public Safety at (909) 748-8888 or ext. 8888 from any campus phone.
