Often times, more than one Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is available. The FAFSA you should complete depends on your start term. Details regarding which FAFSA to complete can be found here.
Financial aid eligibility and award amounts depend on the number of enrolled units in a given semester. Starting mid-semester could mean that you will not be eligible for financial aid for the first semester. To be eligible for Federal student loans, you must be enrolled at least half-time. Half-time is 6 units for undergraduate students and 3 units for graduate students. Pell and Cal Grant amounts vary based on your enrollment status.
Please consult with your Student Financial Services Coordinator regarding the impact of starting mid-semester on your financial aid.
Self-Service is the main hub for financial aid and student account information. Self-Service Financial Aid has information on the status of your financial aid, outstanding items, your financial aid awards and award letter, and links to helpful resources. Self-Service Student Finance has information on your account balance a detailed breakdown of account activity including charges, financial aid, payments, and refunds and links to pay your balance.
All communication regarding financial aid and student accounts is sent to your Redlands email address. Be sure to review any emails from sfs@redlands.edu or your Student Financial Services Coordinator to ensure you do not have any outstanding items.
Financial aid award letters are sent the later of 30 days prior to the start of your program or 2 weeks after your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) is received by the University. You can review the status of your award on the Self-Service Financial Aid home page.
If Self-Service Financial Aid shows that we have not received your FAFSA, it is possible that we do not have your Social Security Number (SSN) on file to access your FAFSA information, or University of Redlands' School Code (00132200) was not listed on the FAFSA.
Award letter notifications are sent to your Redlands email address. If it is past these deadlines and you have not received your financial aid award letter, the University may require additional information from you to process you award. You can review these requirements in Self-Service Financial Aid - Outstanding Items.
Federal Direct Loan amounts are established by the Department of Education. Loan amounts have an annual limit (the maximum you can receive in an award year) and an aggregate limit (the maximum amount of loans you can receive in total from the Federal government). Loan amounts depend on the type of program (e.g. undergraduate or graduate) and year-in-school (e.g. freshman, sophomore, etc.). Federal Pell Grant amounts are established annually by the Department of Education and are based on a student's enrollment status and expected family contribution. Information on Pell Grants can be found at https://studentaid.gov/help-center/answers/article/federal-pell-grant-program
Cal Grant awards are currently set at $9084 per award year and are prorated based on enrollment status. Eligibility for the Cal Grant is based on your high-school or transfer GPA, family income and assets, and filing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 2nd each year. Information on the Cal Grant can be found at csac.ca.gov.
Financial aid is disbursed during the first week of the semester. If you received a financial aid award letter after the semester has begun, your financial aid will disburse within 7-10 days of the day your award letter is received.
Please note, some financial aid awards (e.g. Federal Direct Loans) require additional steps before your aid can disburse. If you've received your award letter but your financial aid has not disbursed, check the Outstanding Items page in Self-Service for additional requirements.
In order for your loans to disburse to your student account, you must complete the Master Promissory Note (MPN) and Entrance Counseling. Information on this requirement can be found in Self-Service Financial Aid under the checklist, or on the Outstanding Items page.

All account balances are due 30 days from the date the charges are processed on your student account. Balances can be paid via one of the following options:

If you've submitted the necessary information to establish your eligibility for a discount and it is not reflected on your student account, please contact your Student Financial Services Coordinator.
A credit balance may result if your financial aid or payments exceed the billing on the account. Credit balances are refunded with 14 days of the date they occur. You can sign up to receive your refund via direct deposit in MyRedlands > Web Advisor > Financial Information > Bank Information.
