School of Education Commencement Speaker

Michael H. Lin
Superintendent, Corona-Norco Unified School District

Michael Lin is the superintendent of the Corona-Norco Unified School District (CNUSD), the ninth largest school district in California serving more than 54,000 students.

Dr. Lin received his Ed.D. in Institutional Management from Pepperdine University; M.S. in Educational Administration from California State University, Fullerton; and B.S. in Aerospace Engineering from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.

Dr. Lin has worked in education for 23 years. He began his career as a mathematics teacher in the Monrovia Unified School District and worked as an assistant principal and personnel services coordinator for the Hacienda–La Puente Unified School District. He served as administrative director of Human Resources at both the Montebello and Walnut Valley Unified School Districts. He came to CNUSD in 2008 as the assistant superintendent of human resources and was promoted to superintendent in 2012. But the engineer’s focus on developing and improving systems lives on in Dr. Lin’s drive to support leadership development and make it an integral part of the district’s strategic plan.

Dr. Lin promotes the success of all students by collaborating with families and community members, responding to diverse community interests and needs and mobilizing community resources. His vision emphasizes student academic achievement, school climate, student access to a broad curriculum and parent engagement. With these goals in mind, CNUSD collaboratively developed a Local Control Accountability Plan. Dr. Lin also hosts neighborhood coffee events to personally connect and work in partnership with parents and community members.

Dr. Lin is among exemplary school superintendents recognized for his leadership in helping transition his district to digital learning and student-centered instruction. This year, Dr. Lin was named one of Education Week’s “Leaders to Learn From,” recognizing forward-thinking district heads working to enact and inspire change in public schools. Dr. Lin was chosen as the 2014 Association of California School Administrators Region 19 Superintendent of the Year for his significant contributions to education. He was also selected by the U.S. Department of Education as one of 117 top school leaders from across America to participate in the first-ever National Connected Superintendents Summit at the White House.
