Overview: Families and students, meet our four speakers, all professionals from the entertainment industry, in a panel discussion moderated by U of R alumna Marilyn Magness, who retired as Executive Creative Director, Disney Parks & Resorts. Hear more about the speakers and their careers and decide which two of the four breakout sessions you would like to attend – it may be a difficult choice!
Session Title: Job Opportunities “Behind the Curtain” (Duke Hall 108)
Dive into the creation and management of the world’s largest global events and discussion about the myriad of jobs “behind the curtain” in corporate theater and event production. Discussion will include: production and stage management, technical design, sound and lighting, design engineering, creative development, and marketing/administration of high-end theater. If you’re interested in careers in the world of entertainment that are not performance-focused, this session is for you!
Session Title: Studio Recording & Performing – A Career Opportunity (Watchorn 103)
If you don’t know a lot about the opportunities in studio recording and performing, this is the session for you! Learn how pop music CAN be the career for you, whether you are a singer, instrumentalist, composer, writer, or arranger.
Session Title: Audition Intel (Duke Hall 109)
A focus on the creative preparation for a professional audition, and by design, not on "camera technique." After 35 casting years working in all media forms, my experience is that the inventive, unexpected, and stand-out audition performances do not rely heavily on second-guessing what their impact will be on camera. Join me to learn more!
