Since its construction in 1996, the Thompson Aquatic Center has been a tremendous benefit to recruiting new student-athletes and developing high caliber aquatic programs. This multimillion-dollar, state-of-the-art center is home to the Bulldog water polo and swimming & diving teams.
“The facility has helped attract a great quantity of swimmers and divers to the University of Redlands and our teams over the past few years,” Head Coach Leslie Whittemore said. “It is just a wonderful facility and is light-years ahead of what we had with the old Currier Gym Pool that I swam in as a student-athlete.”
The 75- by 147-foot pool has 13 25-yard swimming lanes for training and competition. In addition, the pool offers the water polo teams a 30-meter area for regulation play. In 2005, lights were installed at the pool, offering additional practice and competitive conditions for the Bulldogs.
Beyond the pool itself, the Thompson Aquatic Center boasts four regulation diving boards, including two 1M and two 3M boards. This provides the diving team with wonderful practice and competition conditions. In the last few years, the divers have definitely contributed to the championships of the swimming and diving teams as a result of this fine facility.
Finally, when not utilized by the varsity programs, the Thompson Aquatic Center provides the University community with a luxurious recreational pool. During the summer hours, the pool is available for free swim as an ideal place to cool off. For more information, call 909-335-5222. |
