The University of Redlands Community School of Music and the Arts (CSMA) is pleased to offer a summer program for chamber orchestra and symphonic band musicians from ages 8 to 24. Now in its ninth year, the workshops offer daily sessions of courses and ensembles for strings, winds, brass and percussion players with a minimum of one year playing experience for the Beginning Strings Ensemble; three years of playing experience for the Chamber Orchestra; and six or more years of playing experience for the Youth Symphony.
The workshops, held Monday-Friday from July 7-20, run from 9 a.m. to noon for the Beginning Strings players, and from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for the Chamber Orchestra and Youth Symphony. They offer exceptional instruction in the areas of music appreciation, history, theory, composition and ensemble performance. The workshops will also focus on instrumental chamber repertoire and technique. In addition, students will have an opportunity to learn more about music through electives courses in conducting, instrument making, a master class, viola for violinist, jazz history and careers in music.
The deadline to attend the workshops has been extended until filled. Musicians will need to audition for the Chamber Orchestra and Youth Symphony.
The CSMA Summer Workshops will conclude with two performances, the Chamber Music concert on Friday, July 18, at 6:30 p.m. in the Frederick Loewe Performance Hall and the Final Summer Workshop Concert for the Beginning Strings Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra and Youth Symphony on Sunday, July 20, at 3 p.m. in University Hall. Both performances are free and open to the public.
