April 29, 2008 - Redlands, CA - The Redlands women’s lacrosse team concluded a three-game Pacific Northwest road trip on Saturday with an exciting 10-9 victory over the University of Puget Sound (WA). Three Bulldogs combined for the team-lead in goals with freshman attack player Christy Smith (St. Louis Park, MN), sophomore midfielder Haley Kern (Portland, OR), and freshman midfielder Rosie Breen (Portola Valley, CA) providing two scores apiece.
A tight first half saw Redlands in an unfamiliar position as the Loggers challenged the Bulldogs goal-for-goal. While the Bulldogs never trailed, a back-and-forth battle translated into a 6-6 tie at halftime. UPS took an early lead in the third minute of the second half, but Redlands responded with three-consecutive goals. A resilient Logger offense continued to fight, knotting the score at nine each with 17 minutes remaining. A defensive battle ensued until Smith found an opening and provided a quick pass to junior attack player Lisa O’Kane (San Diego, CA) for the game-winner with less than two minutes to go in the game.
Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Feig (Hingham, MA) notched 14 saves in 60 minutes of work for the win.
In addition, the Bulldogs wrapped up a strong week with an individual accolade as Smith was named the Division III Lacrosse Rookie of the Week by www.womenslacrosse.com. In three games, she provided 11 goals, two assists, 18 draw controls, and two ground balls, while playing a key role in the win over Puget Sound.
Redlands women’s lacrosse (8-5) returns to California for its final away game on Wednesday against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges at 4 p.m. The Bulldogs then return home on Saturday at 11 a.m. for Senior Day during their final home game of the season against Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges.
