Anthony Suter’s music has been heard in nearly every major U.S. city, as well as a growing list of international venues. His works include three chamber operas, chamber and orchestral music, and several works for wind ensemble. His principle teachers have included William Bolcom, Susan Botti, Donald Crockett, Stephen Hartke, Bright Sheng, Frank Ticheli, and Dan Welcher.
Professor Suter has received awards from the National Opera Association, the College Band Director’s National Association, ASCAP, Associazione Culturale Musicale “Euritmia”, the British and International Bass Forum, Concorso 2 Agosto, and the Texas String Project.
Upcoming projects include new opera scenes for the Virginia Arts Festival John Duffy Opera Institute in Norfolk, a consortium commissioned wind ensemble work, and a new work for the Austin new music ensemble /Audio Inversions/.
In addition to composing, Professor Suter will be authoring a chapter for the next volume of the GIA Publications series /Composers on Composing for Band/.
Professor Suter has a deep interest in music for younger musicians, and is a vocal advocate for public school music programs, often serving as a guest conductor and clinician for K-12 music programs.
