The University of Redlands women’s lacrosse team competed in its first road game of the season on Wednesday, earning an impressive 15-4 victory over the Poets of Whittier College.  With five different goal-scorers, the Bulldogs looked to a well-rounded effort to capture the solid win.

After scoring the first goal of the game in the ninth minute, the Bulldogs stormed out to a 6-3 lead at the half.  The second period resulted in a one-sided showing for Redlands, which scored nine goals to the Poets’ one.  Overall, the Bulldogs out-shot Whittier, 41-31, while gaining 13 more ground balls.

Junior midfielder Lauren Matta (shown in photo; Holyoke, MA) led the team with five goals while freshman attack player Christy Smith (St. Louis Park, MN) added four.  Junior midfielder Liza Gray (Centennial, CO) supplied three goals as sophomore attack player Mary Shepherd (Dallas, TX) scored twice.  Sophomore midfielder Haley Kern (Portland, OR) rounded out the Bulldogs’ offense with her third goal of the season.  Sophomore attack player Diana Frey (Silver Spring, MD) and sophomore attack player Anna Moriarty (Oak Park, IL) posted one assist each for Redlands.  Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Feig (Hingham, MA) earned 12 saves between the pipes before freshman goalkeeper Katrina Hostak took over in the final 12 minutes of the game, making four stops.

The Bulldogs (3-4) head to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges on Wed., April 2, for a 7 p.m. against the Athenas.
