March 26, 2008 - Redlands, CA - The University of Redlands faced off against the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran University (WA) in a non-conference men's tennis match on Tuesday. After gaining only one doubles point, the Bulldogs came back with solid performances in the singles matches to earn the 6-3 victory.
In doubles, the #2 duo of sophomore Mike Reading (Mill Creek, WA) and senior Zack Hasenyager (Santa Barbara, CA) teamed up for Redlands’ only point with an impressive 8-1 win. Down 1-2, the Bulldogs bounced back by taking five of the six singles matches as sophomore Jeff Hammond (Mercer Island, WA) led the charge with a 6-1, 6-1 showing at #6. Sophomore Matt Liebman (Westport, CT) and junior Chris Trippel (Mercer Island, WA) and added to the team’s momentum with their straight-set wins at #1 and #5, respectively. Liebman cruised by his opponent, 6-0, 6-2, while Trippel remained steady with a 6-2, 6-2 victory. The final three matches went the distance as senior Eric Wagar (Yakima, WA) closed out the game-winning match at #2 with scores of 4-6, 6-1, 6-3. In addition, junior Aron Ouye (San Diego, CA) captured the team’s sixth point in an exciting victory at #3, 6-2, 4-6, 7-5.
The Bulldogs (14-2) take on the nation’s top team in Gustavus Adolphus College (MN) on Thursday at 2 p.m. at Verdieck Courts. |
