March 24, 2008 - Redlands, CA - The University of Redlands women’s lacrosse team wrapped up its six-game home stand on Saturday with a heartbreaking 14-15 loss to visiting Colorado College. In a back-and-forth game that included 10 ties and nine lead-changes, the Bulldogs gave up the final goal with four seconds remaining to suffer a tough loss to the Tigers.
After jumping out to a 4-1 lead, Redlands allowed six Tiger goals while scoring only one to go down 5-7 with 10 minutes to go in the first half. However, the Bulldogs stormed back to even the score at seven apiece at the break. The second period saw an intense and competitive display of action between the two teams, as neither gained a lead of more than one goal. Redlands momentarily took the lead with 34 seconds to go but the goal was called back for an illegal crosse. With the score tied at 14, the Tigers took advantage of opportunity and put away the game-winner with four seconds on the clock.
Once again, the Bulldogs relied on their freshman phenomenon in attack player Christy Smith (shown in photo; St. Louis Park, MN), who notched 10 goals for another school-record performance. Sophomore attack player Diana Frey (Silver Spring, MD), junior midfielder Lauren Matta (Holyoke, MA), freshman midfielder Rosie Breen (Portola Valley, CA), and junior attack player Aislynn Neish (Portland, OR) added one goal apiece, while sophomore attack player Mary Shepherd (Dallas, TX) provided two assists. Matta and freshman defender Anna Kessler (Portland, OR) came up with six ground balls each while senior goalkeeper Lindsay Feig (Hingham, MA) tallied 10 saves between the pipes.
