March 20, 2008 - Redlands, CA - The University of Redlands women’s lacrosse team halted a three-game skid during Wednesday’s Faculty Appreciation Night with an emotional 13-12 victory over the College of Wooster (OH). Amidst a well-balanced and exciting battle, the Bulldogs prevailed with a total team effort that included eight different goal-scorers.
Redlands opened the game with a 2-0 lead but the Fighting Scots quickly responded to pull ahead by one. Less than 35 seconds later, the Bulldogs equalized the score at three each, only to see Wooster seemingly take control with a 6-3 advantage. However, Redlands refused to give in and put together three unanswered goals to tie the score at the conclusion of the first half. In a back-and-forth scenario that included multiple lead-changes and tied scores, the Bulldogs finally went up 12-11 with 9:25 remaining in the game and never relinquished the lead. Redlands scored a few minutes later to secure the exciting victory but gave up a goal in the final 90 seconds of play. With ball control and intensity, the Bulldogs held on for the exciting 13-12 win.
Freshman attack player Christy Smith (St. Louis Park, MN) continued to impress by putting away four goals for the Bulldogs. Sophomore attack player Diana Frey (Silver Spring, MD) and junior attack player Aislynn Neish (Portland, OR) each added two scores while sophomore attack player Mary Shepherd (Dallas, TX), junior midfielder Lauren Matta (Holyoke, MA), freshman midfielder Rosie Breen (Portola Valley, CA), freshman defender Anna Kessler (Portland, OR) and sophomore midfielder Haley Kern (Portland, OR) notched one apiece. Senior goalkeeper Lindsay Feig (Hingham, MA) posted 10 saves while Kessler tallied eight ground balls and five caused turnovers.
The Bulldogs (2-3 overall) host their sixth home game in a row on Saturday at 7 p.m. as they face the Tigers of Colorado College. |
