March 17, 2008 - Redlands, CA - The University of Redlands women’s tennis team faced the #11 Tigers of Trinity University (TX) on Saturday and came away with a hard-fought 6-3 victory. After gaining two of the three doubles points, the Bulldogs looked to the #3-#6 singles to earn the win.
In doubles, the #2 duo of sophomore Rachael Miller (Newport Beach, CA) and freshman Sara Yoshinaga (Honolulu, HI) supplied a solid 8-4 showing. Redlands also gained an 8-4 victory at the #3 spot as senior Natalie Krzmarzick (Yucaipa, CA) and junior Kaleena Wakamatsu (shown in photo; Maui, HI) defeated their opponents.
In singles, junior Tori Damiani (Sacramento, CA) cruised by her opponent at #6, earning a 6-1, 6-1 win, while Wakamatsu gained the victory at #5 with a 6-3, 6-2 performance. The Bulldogs looked to senior Katie Bell (San Dimas, CA) and sophomore Whitney Waters (Austin, TX) to pull out come-from-behind victories, winning in three sets. Bell rallied back at #3 by scores of 3-6, 6-3, 6-3, while Waters earned the victory at #4, 2-6, 6-3, 6-4.
The Bulldogs (7-2) face the #2 team in the country on Thursday as they welcome Amherst College (MA) to Verdieck Courts at 2 p.m. |
