Summer Workshop for Beginner Strings Chamber Orchestra and Youth Symphony

The Community School of Music and the Arts is proud to offer this outstanding and rewarding program for young chamber orchestra and symphony musicians. Now in its ninth year, this Workshop includes full daily sessions of courses and ensembles for all chamber strings, winds, brass and percussion and Youth Symphony. A minimum of four years playing experience is required for Chamber Orchestra participants. The Youth Symphony auditions will be held for advanced students with six or more years playing experience.
The 10-day Monday-Friday Summer Workshop offers exceptional instruction in the areas of music history, theory, composition, and performance focusing on specific chamber music literature, technique and ensemble performance. Workshop participants may choose from a variety of electives: Conducting,Viola for Violinists, Winds or Brass, Jazz History, Careers in Music, Instrument Making.
The Summer Workshop will conclude with a Chamber Music Concert on Friday, July 18 at 6 p.m. in the Frederick Loewe Performance Hall. The Chamber Orchestra and Youth Symphony Concert will be on Sunday, July 20 at 3 p.m. in University Hall. Both performances are free and open to the public.
The University of Redlands Community School of Music and the Arts will offer a 10-day Beginning Strings Workshop July 7-20, Monday-Friday for string players (violin, violin, cello and double bass) with a minimum of 1-2 years playing experience in the Fine Arts building room 107. Students will participate daily from 9 a.m. - noon in a Beginning Stings ensemble, Music Appreciation and Music Theory classes. The Beginning Strings Workshop will conclude with a Chamber Music performance on Friday, July 18 at 6 p.m. in the Frederick Loewe Performance Hall in Watchorn Hall and a final summer workshop joint performance with the Chamber Orchestra and Youth Symphony on Sunday, July 20, at 3 p.m. in University Hall. The cost of the workshop is $150.
CSMA Summer Workshops Registration Deadline Extended
The Registration deadline for the CSMA Summer Workshops has been extended to May 30 or until filled. Auditions are not required for beginning strings students.
