Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Associate Director, Employment & Employee Relations will be responsible for assisting the Director with the day to day operations of the Human Resources Department with emphasis on employment and employee relations. Ensures compliance with federal and state regulations and university policies and procedures. Responsible for assisting with the administration of employee related benefits programs. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Develops and maintains strong effective relationships with departments, assisting, counseling and training department management regarding recruiting, employment laws, employee relations, ensuring that university policies and procedures related to hiring and promotions are complied with by all departments.
- Manages the employment function for the university, overseeing the two Human Resources Analysts, ensuring that qualified applicants are matched with vacant positions.
- Reviews plans for employment advertisement, works with Analyst to identify appropriate websites and publications in which to place employment ads.
- Oversees the day-to-day classification/compensation function.
- Assists the Director of Human Resources with issues of compensation market studies.
- Administers employee benefits programs, studies benefit programs and makes recommendations regarding costs and coverage of available plans and programs. Provides reporting and benchmarking data in order to identify benefit trends, develop executive updates, conducts reviews and census data reporting and analysis.
- Provides customer service support to employees and assists with questions and problem resolution. Acts as liaison between employee and insurance providers. Interacts with the University’s insurance broker.
- Reviews, develops benefit communication materials, develops means to engage employees in better understanding and utilizing health and wellness programs.
- Prepares, analyzes and tracks Workers’ Compensation and unemployment claims, interacting with employees, vendors, and regulatory agencies as appropriate.
- Handles employee relation issues, situations and grievances in a calm and effective manner. Is an objective professional who helps provide balance to employees with their own special interests and agendas, using good judgment and sees balance in terms of input and perspective always keeping the institution and its best interests in mind.
- Analyzes current human resources processes and procedures and makes appropriate recommendations to streamline, and improve efficiency and effectiveness in employment, benefits and employee relations.
- Performing other duties and special projects as assigned or directed.

| Minimum Qualifications: |
Position requires a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources Management, Business Administration, Public Administration or other closely related field, plus seven (7) or more years of experience in the human resources field, supervisory experience is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. An advance degree is preferred. Must have strong interpersonal, analytical, communications skills both written and verbal. Successful candidate must be multi-task oriented, able to competently interact with a culturally and ethnically diverse population of students, faculty and staff, and be able to work with minimal supervision. The successful candidate should have well-developed research and analytical skills and be proficient with personal computer operations, primarily word-processing and spreadsheet applications.
