Gerald Groshek, an associate professor in the University of Redlands School of Business, has been selected for a Fulbright Senior Specialists project in Slovakia at the University of Economics in Bratislava during spring 2008, according to the U.S. Department of State and the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Groshek will work with the administration at the University of Economics as they implement institutional and programmatic reforms.  He will also engage with the faculty through a series of workshops to develop approaches to information and knowledge technology, course management techniques and alternative assessment methods in their teaching.

Groshek, a professor of international economics and business, is director of International Programs in the School of Business and regularly conducts study abroad courses in Asia and Europe. He recently returned from Bangalore, India, where he taught a graduate course in international financial management at the Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship.  In January 2004, Groshek returned from a four-month Fulbright grant that took him to the same university in Bratislava to teach and research.

His most recent Fulbright award comes after another University of Redlands professor, Graeme Auton, was awarded a grant from the prestigious program. Last summer, Auton, a government and international relations professor, received a Fulbright Scholar grant to lecture and do research at Kyung Hee University in Seoul, South Korea, for four months. His appointment came at an important time in regional discussions with North Korea over the fate of its nuclear program and its relationship with its neighbors.

Groshek is one of over 400 U.S. faculty and professionals who will travel abroad this academic year through the Fulbright Senior Specialists Program. The Fulbright Senior Specialists Program, created in 2000 to complement the traditional Fulbright Scholar Program, provides short-term academic opportunities, of two to six weeks, to prominent U.S. faculty and professionals to support curricular and faculty development and institutional planning at post secondary, academic institutions around the world.

The Fulbright Program, America’s flagship international educational exchange activity, is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
