Reference Services
Reference librarians are available to assist you at the Armacost Library reference desk, over the phone (909) 748-4724, or through IM (screen name: askurlib).   Please look below for reference desk hours and/or information on using IM.

Monday-Thursday: 9 a.m.-9 p.m.
Friday:  9 a.m.-5 p.m.
Saturday:  10 a.m.-5 p.m.
Sunday: 1-9 p.m.

Please note reference desk hours are subject to change. For changes, please see the exceptions to the regular schedule of hours found on the library hours page.

IM stands for Instant Messenger.  Using AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) software, you may have an online conversation with a librarian.  To use AIM, please see the instructions below.
You may IM a librarian during reference desk hours.
This service is intended for the University of Redlands community only.  We will do our best to refer those not affiliated with the university to a more suitable service.
We will attempt to answer all of your questions regarding library resources and services.  However, in order to answer your questions more fully we may ask that you email the librarian or schedule a research consultation.  Database password information cannot be submitted over IM.  Please visit the library or call (909) 748-8022 for password information.
  1. Go to http://www.aim.com/
  2. You may either download AIM software to your computer or use AIM Express (AIM Express does not require you to download any software)
  3. Fill out the registration and pick your screen name
  4. Log into AIM
  5. Add our screen name (askurlib) to your buddy list
  6. Double click on our screen name to send us your reference questions!
  1. IM reference is intended to be used by the University of Redlands community only. We are happy to refer those not affiliated with the University to a more suitable service.
  2. While your questions are important to us, in person reference requests will take priority over IM reference questions. As a result, there may be a slight delay in answering some IM reference questions. We will do our best to answer each IM question in a timely manner.
  3. While statistics of IM questions may be kept, we will not save logs of IM transactions.
  4. Database password information will not be submitted over IM. Please stop in or call the library (909) 748-8022 for database password information.
