Environmental Studies

Environmental Studies is a field that crosses the boundaries of traditional disciplines, challenging faculty and students to look at the relationship between humans and their environments from a variety of perspectives.  The Environmental Studies Major draws from curricula in the earth and natural sciences as well as the social sciences.

As an Environmental Studies major, you will discover what human societies must do, both locally and globally, to become environmentally sustainable.

You will engage in problem-driven learning across the sciences, social sciences and the humanities and tackle real-world environmental issues using state-of-the-art facilities that include laboratories for exploring environmental science and geographic information systems (GIS), as well as a major research center--the Redlands Institute for Environmental Design, Management and Policy.

Our location between the mountains, the desert and the ocean gives rise to marvelous opportunities for exploring a wide range of wild ecosystems and humanly disturbed environments.

Our May Term travel courses, design studios and extensive range of environmental study abroad programs will expose you to even greater environmental diversity.
