Senior Year, Latin Honors

To achieve Latin Honors a student must undertake a research project and prepare an Honors thesis on a topic relevant to their degree emphasis and have this work product reviewed and approved by a Faculty committee of no less than three Professors. The University Registrar then awards Latin Honors, based upon the overall GPA of the student. To achieve the quality expected by the department most students start formulating their hypotheses in the spring of their junior year and undertake extensive reading and field research during their junior summer and the fall of their senior year.
Why Complete an Honors Project?
The discipline and cross functional knowledge required to successfully complete an honors project allows students to bring together their first three years of academic experience in a major research and analytical thesis. Students are able to select a topic of interest and to pursue inquiry, which usually includes field work as well as traditional literature reviews and analysis. For example, in the recent past field work has included interviews with foreign executives conducting business in California; growers and wine makers in Napa Valley, California, and the Borossa Valley of Australia; and public and private school teachers in California.
Students use this project and their Business 459 Capstone projects as portfolios to show and discuss with potential employers and graduate schools.
