"I coach our two men’s and women’s ultimate frisbee teams here. The number one rule in ultimate is called Spirit of the Game, and that is that when you play the sport, you agree to play with sportsmanship and to respect your opponents even if you disagree with them. I’ve played in two world championship games and two national championship games, and I can tell you with everything on the line four times, very few heated discussions.
"Now mind you, there is no one to settle disputes--there’s only you and the other team--and it works because it has to work. If it didn’t work, there’d be chaos and you couldn’t have a sport. And so it’s the ultimate, ultimate in sportsmanship and I think most people who play it claim it’s the ultimate sport. There’s a bond between ultimate players that I’ve never seen between players of other sports." |
