STEP ONE: Attend organized events offered by the Study Abroad Office. At the Study Abroad General Information Session, staff will discuss important topics including approved program opportunities, the online application process and timeline, financial aid, and general policies and procedures. For the Study Abroad Fair, frequent University of Redlands program providers are generally available to answer questions about their approved U of R offerings. We also have faculty, staff and/or students available to provide information about our Salzburg Semester or partner university and provider programs.
General Information Session: Thurs, Sept. 21 – GRG 161 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
Study Abroad Fair: Tue, Sept. 26 - Hunsaker Commons 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
STEP TWO: Complete the University of Redlands study abroad application through the online portal in advance of the December 1 deadline. This application and deadline is for students seeking to study abroad for the fall 2018 or spring 2019 semester. Students must select and apply to a program on the portal, and apply to a second choice program in the event that their first choice is from the competitive enrollment list, generate their own account and complete the application.Access the online portal here. They should research options in advance and solicit guidance from their Academic Advisors and the Study Abroad Office to find a program that best fits their academic interests. The application deadline is final: there is no post-deadline petition process for late applications. The exception to this is for applications to U of R’s Salzburg Semester, or select exchange programs, space permitting.
There is a $40 application fee that will be added directly to student accounts.
Study Abroad Application Deadline: Fri, Dec. 1, 2017
STEP THREE: Once accepted, all students must complete U of R’s post-acceptance requirements on the online portal, which includes completion of the Medical Form. This will also include specific directions for next steps students must then complete. These will vary based on the program selected. For students applying to partner programs, they must then complete program-specific applications. Students wishing to change their selection from the program they initially applied to when completing the university online application must inform the Study Abroad Office. Only the Study Abroad Office can formalize this change in each student’s application. This change can only be to a different program from the approved list on the online portal. Students who do not communicate any such changes may become ineligible for study abroad and have their applications withdrawn by the Study Abroad Office.
Program Specific Deadlines:
Fall 2018: February 16, 2018
Spring 2019: May 25, 2018
STEP FOUR: Confirm program specific acceptance to the Study Abroad Office via email upon being informed by the provider program. Send this email to Melissa Modesitt, Study Abroad Program Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Full Year Abroad: All undergraduate students are eligible for a single semester of study abroad as part of their University of Redlands’ education. A limited number of students interested in study abroad for a full academic year (not calendar year) are competitively selected for year awards. Interested students must answer yes to the related question when prompted in completing the online study abroad application and then write an essay in which they develop an exceptionally strong academic rationale for a full year abroad. This must be completed as part of the online application meaning the same regular application deadline is in effect. Late requests will not be accepted. A committee composed of University of Redlands faculty and administrators convene to select applicants on a competitive basis, if and when warranted.
