Program Activities

Weekly Tutoring
This is a supplemental service for Rochford Scholars that would be available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons beginning at 3:30 p.m. at middle school sites where Rochford Scholars are enrolled. Tutoring specific to Math, English, and Science coursework will be offered. Weekly tutoring would be supervised by the program director, faculty fellow, and graduate assistants. Tutors will be School of Education graduate students and undergraduate University of Redlands students. 

Saturday Academy
Rochford Scholars will be required to attend eight (8) Saturday Academy sessions per semester, starting January 2018. Sessions will be held at the University of Redlands and the Burrage Mansion. The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at noon. Students will receive supplemental instruction in English and Math while also learning a college-going curriculum and being exposed to extracurricular/cultural development activities. Two snacks will be provided and parents/families must provide transportation to and from Saturday Academies. School of Education graduate students will lead the sessions with support and assistance from graduate assistants and undergraduate students. Supervision will be provided by the program director and faculty fellow.

Family Academy
The aim of the Family Academy is to provide Rochford Scholars with a college-going culture that extends beyond the school and program into their home life. Parents, or a family member, will be required to attend two Saturday Sessions where information specific to support Rochford Scholars will be shared and discussed as a group. Topics of Family Academy sessions will vary and include suggestions from parents/family members but will focus on supporting student success. Lunch will be provided for all participants, family-style, on Family Academy sessions. Additionally, we hope that parents will participate as members of the Advisory Board as important voices in the program's ongoing mission to meet the needs of our participants.

Summer Session 
Tentatively scheduled for July 2018, this weeklong intensive is for rising seventh graders who were sixth-grade Rochford Scholars during Spring 2018. During the week students will be prepared for the upcoming academic school year in the areas of English, Math, and Science while also participating in college and career readiness skill building and structured leisure activities. The week will be held at the University of Redlands and will be led by the program director, faculty fellow, graduate assistants, and School of Education graduate students.
