This is a supplemental service for Rochford Scholars that would be available on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons beginning at 3:30 p.m. at middle school sites where Rochford Scholars are enrolled. Tutoring specific to Math, English, and Science coursework will be offered. Weekly tutoring would be supervised by the program director, faculty fellow, and graduate assistants. Tutors will be School of Education graduate students and undergraduate University of Redlands students.
Rochford Scholars will be required to attend eight (8) Saturday Academy sessions per semester, starting January 2018. Sessions will be held at the University of Redlands and the Burrage Mansion. The day will begin at 8:30 a.m. and conclude at noon. Students will receive supplemental instruction in English and Math while also learning a college-going curriculum and being exposed to extracurricular/cultural development activities. Two snacks will be provided and parents/families must provide transportation to and from Saturday Academies. Redlands Unified School District teachers will lead the academic sessions with support and assistance from graduate assistants and graduate students. Graduate students will lead the college access curriculum sessions. Supervision will be provided by the program director and faculty fellow.
The aim of the Family Academy is to provide Rochford Scholars with a college-going culture that extends beyond the school and program into their home life. Parents, or a family member, will be required to attend two (2) Saturday Sessions where information specific to support Rochford Scholars will be shared and discussed as a group. Topics of Family Academy sessions will vary and include suggestions from parents/family members but will focus on supporting student success. Lunch will be provided for all participants, family-style, on Family Academy sessions. Additionally, we hope that parents will participate as members of the Advisory Board as important voices in the program's ongoing mission to meet the needs of our participants.
Will be held in partnership with Colton-Redlands-Yucaipa Regional Occupational Program (CRY-ROP) during June 2018.
