American Dream

Wealth. Beauty. The perfect family. The perfect job. The perfect house. White picket fences. This was the American Dream in the 1960's. It was a dream in which the materialistic took precedence-where true happiness could only be achieved through the possession of the "perfect" life. In this satire, Albee explores a particular family's role in such a society. American Dream showcases the kind of chaos that is often concealed by "perfection," exposing their outrageous determination to have a quality family.

Today, we live in a society that searches for a similar "perfection." Artificial ones replace authentic values and we go to great lengths to ensure that our American world is seen as perfect and beautiful from the outside, so that our chaotic economy is hidden. Looking at the parallel and differences between the two societies, we are left to wonder just how far society will go in order to achieve the ultimate American Dream.

For the first time, The University of Redlands Theatre Arts Department is presenting a Department Produced Student Mainstage Show. It will showcase the diverse talents of the senior class, who all hold an important production role. American Dream is directed by senior Brianne Lopez, stage managed by senior Mandy Nussbaum, with character development by senior Jeremy Wiley, scenic design by senior Sarah Perez, costume design by senior Cambria Chichi, lighting design by senior Leah Ramillano, and assistant stage managed by U of R sophomore Elizabeth Bluth.
