Muse of Fire: A New Play by William Shakespeare

On Nov. 15, 2007, the world premiere of a new play by William Shakespeare, created by Steve Shade and a talented ensemble of 16 students, opened on the Glen Wallichs Stage.

Using Shakespeare's Sonnets -- some of the most vibrant and passionate poetry that the English language has ever known as a inspirational point of departure,"Muse of Fire," explored themes of love, lust, obsession, betrayal and mortality. The production fused Shakespeare's spoken text, contemporary music, song and movement into a new multimedia performance work in which many of Shakespeare's familiar characters --recast in a modern context -- intersect each other in surprising and provocative ways.

Collaborating with Director Steve Shade on the production were Marco Schindelmann from the School of Music as vocal director; Snezana Petrovic, set and multimedia designer; Deborah Bradford, costumer designer; and Kevin Palkki, lighting designer.
