Rod Goodyear, Executive Director

Rod Goodyear (Ph.D., University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign) is a Professor and Chair of the University of Redlands Department of Counseling and Human Services as well as the Executive Director of CAPE. He also is Emeritus Professor of Counseling Psychology, University of Southern California and past President of the Society for the Advancement of Psychotherapy. A major theme of his scholarship has been supervision and training of counselors and psychologists: His book with Janine Bernard (Fundamentals of Clinical Supervision) now in its sixth edition is arguably the most used supervision book in world; his recent work explores the use of deliberate practice to improve psychotherapy expertise. He was a member of the American Psychological Associations’ task group that developed the Association’s supervision guidelines and he received the American Psychological Association's 2015 award for Distinguished Lifetime Contributions to Education and Training.
