His Holiness the 17th Karmapa - Visit to the Meditation Room

In March 2015, the University of Redlands was blessed by the three-day visit of His Holiness the 17th Karmapa  organized by Professor Karen Derris.  For many years, Prof. Derris has been engaged with His Holiness, taking groups of college students to India for extended dialogues with His Holiness, the fruits of which are two books of the Karmapa’s teachings, co-edited by Prof. Derris: The Heart is Noble and Interconnected.

During the Karmapa’s visit to the University of Redlands, he spent 90 minutes in the Meditation Room with a diverse group of faculty, student, and community participants in our program.  His Holiness answered questions related to meditation practice, spiritual community, the purpose of education, and how to bring a compassionate view to difficult global problems.

The Karmapa expressed joy about the Meditation Room community and our approach to education that integrates the cultivation of compassion and wisdom through “genuine spiritual practice.”
