Political & Social Justice Organizations

Many U of R students are involved in social justice organizations such as Invisible Children.

At Redlands, we believe that political and social involvement can be an important part of the liberal arts education.

These student organizations provide students with avenues to organize and influence government and politics at the local, state, national and international levels, while also fostering ethical practices and social responsibility:

  • Amnesty International—works to protect human rights through awareness, education and activism
  • Change Lives Foundationseeks to give opportunities and hope to communities in Africa through providing scholarships and environmental education to the citizens of Rwanda and Swaziland
  • College Democrats/CA Young Democratsworks to represent the views of the Democratic Party on the University campus and beyond
  • College Republicansworks to develop political and leadership skills in preparation for future service to the community and the Republican Party
  • Fidelity Isonomy Erudition (FIE)creates change within the community as well as globally through community service and the promotion of awareness about social justice issues
  • Invisible Children—works to raise awareness and financial aid for war affected children in northern Uganda through film screenings, parties with a purpose, compassion fashion clothing, benefit CDs and concerts, book drives, letter writing campaigns and change for change collections
  • Ocean Love Club—seeks to educate people about and raise funds for marine ecology protection
  • People Representing Individuality, Diversity and Equality (PRIDE) Alliance —promotes acceptance and understanding of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender students through social, educational and political activity
  • Quarters for Kenya—aids the Redlands Rotary Club through raising funds to build sanctuaries and orphanages in Kenya through The Shepherd's Homes
  • Rangi Ya Giza (RYG)—a brotherhood that focuses on diversity, leadership, social justice and community service
  • Students for Environmental Action (SEA)—strives to protect the environment and educate the public about the need for environmental protection and sustainability
  • Tom’s Shoes—works to bring awareness and support to children in underdeveloped nations by providing them with shoes, thereby preventing disease and infection and allowing them to attend school
  • Wadada Wa Rangi Wengi (WRW)—a sisterhood dedicated to community service and raising awareness, primarily about social justice issues related to women
  • Young Americans for Liberty—works to educate peers about libertarian values and emphasize the role of the Constitution in American government
  • Youth Hope—serves the street and homeless youth of Redlands and the surrounding areas by providing them with personal, academic, medical, legal and employment support in order to help them return to stable home environments and use their voices as positive influences in their communities
