Fairmont is one of the smallest communities on campus, housing only 66 students. All rooms share hallway bathrooms, with the exception of four suites on two floors. Fairmont Hall houses the Catalyst Program, which is a community dedicated to living and learning the concept of social justice. With the involvement of Campus Diversity and Inclusion and the Office of Community Service Learning, the hall is a center for students interested in activism and education.

In Fall 2014, Fairmont Hall will also pilot the Lavender Floor, a community still focused on activism, education, and service, but with a specific emphasis on creating safe spaces for members of the GLBTQ community and their allies. For more information on this program, please email Sarah

Fairmont is the only residence hall on campus with a mascot—the Fairmont Rock. Other residence halls and student organizations attempt to “attack” the rock, and Fairmont community members take a great deal of pride in defending their Rock with an always fun water balloon or strategized hose spraying defense.
