The Annual Lavender Recognition Ceremony is one of the official events as part of the University’s Commencement exercises. This ceremony is held to honor the experiences of graduating students who identify as Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or Queer and students that have been recognized as strong allies for this community at the University. It is an opportunity to bring the community together to commemorate this joyous event.
Graduating seniors have the opportunity to select a speaker (family member, friend mentor, etc) who speaks about the graduate before presenting them with a specially made stole. It is an intimate ceremony with family and friends in attendance. This event is called the Lavender Recognition Ceremony to honor the history of LGBTQ struggles across the world.
The 2013 Lavender Recognition Ceremony will take place on Thursday April 18 at 4:00 PM in Casa Loma Room.
