Professional Development Workshops

The Office of Professional Development is pleased to announce our Spring and May 2018 Workshop Schedule. All workshops are open to students and alumni! Space is limited, so please be sure to RSVP through your Handshake account: log-on, go to the Events tab, view the Event, and click 'Join Event.' If you have not yet registered for Handshake, please see your specific population page on the left for more in-depth instruction.

All workshops are interactive sessions during which we encourage you to come prepared to participate in activities. Participants are encouraged to bring a computer or smart device to optimize the experience.

Classroom Instruction

Internship & Employment Planning

Finding a good position to apply for depends on your unique set of values, interests, and skills. This workshop will help you reflect on what type of position would be a good fit for you as well as give you the tools to research industries, fields, and specific employers. We will explore Handshake, LinkedIn, Indeed, and other popular online search platforms. We will also discuss ways to utilize your existing network and expand your professional contacts to research fields and learn about potential opportunities. Participant limit: 10

Once you have targeted specific internship and employment opportunities, we recommend you attend our Résumé/CV & Cover Letter Development workshop to help you articulate how your experience makes you the best applicant for the job.

Well, the first step towards earning your interview is presenting targeted and persuasive documents that reflect your unique fit for the position. Join us for this workshop and learn how to make your résumé and cover letter reflect your skills and experience relevant to the opportunities that you find. Participant limit: 10

UR Handshake: Matching Your Talent with Opportunity

Your physical handshake is one of the first impressions that you can make with an interested employer. Likewise, your virtual Handshake is the first impression that online recruiters receive from you. Handshake currently includes over 2000 employers who are listing opportunities across diverse industries and fields to University of Redlands students and alumni. Join our Handshake workshop to strengthen your personal profile, learn the capabilities that your Handshake has to offer, as well as understand what employers want to see in applicants.
