Subject: Safety- Bulletin - Gunshots at Redlands East Valley High School

On Sunday night, May 4, 2014, at approximately 10:30 pm, numerous students from Redlands East Valley (REV) High School located in the unincorporated community just outside of Redlands were participating in an unapproved overnight campout in the quad of their school. During this activity, the students were confronted by several individuals who appeared to have no affiliation with the school. Several of the REV student approached these intruding individuals and asked them to leave the campus at which time a verbal argument ensued between the two groups. As the non-students got back into their car, one of them reportedly fired three gunshots into the air as they prepared to leave the campus. Fortunately nobody was injured in this encounter. The vehicle was only described as a dark gray or black Lexus sedan. Should additional information become available, Public Safety will notify the University Community.

For your safety, if you observe individuals who do not appear to have a legitimate purpose on campus or occupied vehicles that are loitering or cruising through the University parking lots, do not confront them, but instead call Public Safety immediately to report your observations.

In an effort to further enhance your safety, if you observe any suspicious individuals or activities on or adjacent to the campus, immediately proceed to a secure location that is either indoors or one that is well lit and occupied by other members of the University Community. At the same time, call Public Safety at (909) 748-8888, or dial 911.

As a precautionary measure, students are reminded to walk in groups and use well lit pathways on the interior of the campus during periods of darkness.

Our highest priority remains the safety and security of our campus community members. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Public Safety at (909) 748-8888 or ext. 8888 from any campus phone. As a reminder, Non-Emergency anonymous tip messages may be sent to Public Safety by texting a message to the six digit number 847411 and using the keyword UOFR.
